Aikido is a purely defensive style of martial arts. It was
founded by Morihei Ueshiba Sensei (1883 ? 1969). Ueshiba
Sensei was an exceptionally gifted student of Sokaku
Takeda Sensei. Takeda Sensei was the first to publicly
teach the ancient art of Daitoryu Aiki jujitsu when Japan
started modernising in the mid 1900s. Daitoryu emphasises
throwing techniques and joint manipulations to subdue
an attacker.
Modern aikido was born when Ueshiba Sensei brought the
essentials of other ancient martial arts and techniques of
his own and combined them with Daitoryu’s techniques. In
developing his techniques and philosophy Ueshiba Sensei
concluded that the true warrior's path could be found in
resolving conflict peacefully, by blending with an attacker's
energy and redirecting it in a non-destructive way.
Yoshinkan Aikido was established in 1955 by Gozo Shioda
Sensei (1915-1994), one of Ueshiba Sensei's best students.
Some call it a hard style in that it emphasizes correct form
and has strong, more decisive linear movements that flow
from this. Because of its effectiveness it is taught to Tokyo
Riot Police. One of Shioda's most talented and dedicated
students was Tsuneo Ando Sensei who established
Yoshinkan Aikido Ryu in Chiba in1996.
Yoshinkan Aikido Soryu was established in 2012 by
Akira Mitsuhashi Sensei. Mitsuhashi Sensei spent 9 years
from 2003 to 2012 training as an apprentice (uchi deshi) to
Ando Sensei before opening his own dojo in his home-town
of Ichihara in the southern area of Chiba prefecture.
Mitsuhashi Sensei credits his time with Ando Sensei for
developing his own particular style and philosophy. The
name “Soryu” was chosen for two reasons. First, it was the
name of Japan's most famous aircraft carrier in the Japanese
Imperial Navy and second, it is one of the gods of the four
directions. Mitsuhashi Sensei wants to make his dojo like an
aircraft carrier ? training and equipping his students with
invaluable skills that refresh and strengthen them both
physically and mentally before releasing them back into
their busy lives.
It takes about 3 minutes after getting off Takeyama highway at Ichihara IC.

Live-in training is for students who want to gain a greater understanding of the spirit of aikido and to improve their aikido technique. It is also an excellent way of preparing for an upcoming test!
